As a filmmaker, I want to be able to create something new, and unique, and probably a romantic-comedy that ends all well and the story will stay with the viewer. I mean, everyone loves a happy ending, right?
WRONG!
To great sadness, Baz Luhrmann, my favourite director of all time because of his beauty, brilliance, and ability to visualize love, has publicly announced that just days before his wide release of his new film “Australia” he has been pressured by the studio to rewrite and edit the ending to that of a “happy” one, because studios felt if it ended happy more people would go see it. This is SUCH a disgrace. HE’S BAZ LUHRMANN! People are going to see it REGARDLESS! Did Satine die in Moulin Rouge!?! YES! Did Jack die in Titanic!?!?!? YES! Did Jamie die in A Walk to Remember?!?!? YES! AND THIS IS WHY WE LOVE THESE MOVIES!!! Because we FEEL for the characters, because we have attached a bond to them, and the story stays with us!!!!!!!!!! KILL HUGH JACKMAN’S CHARACTER! Seriously! STAND UP FOR LOVE! STAND UP FOR CREATIVITY! STAND UP FOR WHAT YOU BELIEVE IN BAZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You were my hero. You were everything I wanted to be as a filmmaker. Why would you give into the majority? I want to cry, and breakdown, and feel the love between these characters.
None of us have a happy ending anyways……………………so why pretend?
