today i got the best christmas gift i’ve ever received in my entire life. too make a long story short, on my 9th birthday i had a bad roller skating accident followed by years of root canals, braces (several times) and fake tooths. i’ve had the fake tooth on for half my life now and was always self conscious of it. it wasn’t shaped right, it wasn’t coloured right, and although people say « you really can’t tell, » you really could if you saw it everyday, in every single picture and mirror.
so every year for christmas i’ve asked for a new, pretty tooth that matched, and this year is the year of miracles because today my wish came true! (I bet you can’t even tell which one is the new one! although due to foreshortening it does look slightly smaller, but in person so is not the case.)
my self-confidence, from today to everyday of the rest of my life, will be 1000 points higher. i ♥ my gift. (so everyone please take care of your pearly whites tonight because they are more special than you may think!)
let’s celebrate with some awesome photos, followed by awesome news…
i really really heart that first photograph. i have no idea why, but it makes me very happy. i actually really heart all of these. obama and dunkin donuts? awesome. that guy wearing the t-shirt of himself? more awesome. charlie brown? my life.
my ma-maw took me out to breakfast today and used the word scrumptious, and that made me very happy.
you know what else makes me happy? today the school has invited me to attend WordCamp Atlanta. (free lodging, transpo, and food) now at first i thought « what is wordcamp? » and then i looked it up here. it’s a 2-day event that takes place in several cities and is designed for wordpress users and bloggers. teaching you tricks, html magic, and networking with other bloggers. maybe you didn’t know i was truly a nerd before, but THIS SOUNDS AWESOME (and i said that in all-caps so it must be important.)
sign me up! start the van! i’m packed and ready to go! (unfortunately it’s not until the second week in january but that is very very close!)
so my blogging level might surpass a new level of amazing-ness, all for your pretty little eyes…
and the final news of the day (except that i love listening to the spice girls) i made my mom a christmas gift. she barely knows how to turn a computer on and probably isn’t even sure where the internet icon is, so i am in no way concerned that she will ever see this before christmas:
this is a silhouette of myself and my sister. it was super easy, cheap, and fast to make!
how to make a silhouette profile
first buy:
8×10 frame (hobby lobby $6)
12×12 scrapbook paper (hobby lobby $.025)
1 8×10 print at a photo lab (walgreens $2.50)
you also need an x-acto knife ($3 @ michaels) and glue stick ($1 @ walgreens)
first: take the picture. make your subject stand profiled against a white wall/backdrop (if you smile, make sure not to show your teeth)
second: import the picture into photoshop
third: using the « magic wand tool », select the white background and « edit » « cut »
forth: make the image black and white « image » « adjustments » « desaturate »
fifth: lower the brightness and up the contrast « image » « adjustments » « brightness and contrast »
sixth: save the file and save it on a cd, memory card, or send it in through the internet to a photolab.
seventh: once you picked the photo up, size your scrapbook paper to 8X10, then using the x-acto knife, cut the black photo silhouettes out. glue them to the scrapbook paper, put it into a frame, viola!
it’s that simple
even if you don’t know how to use photoshop, you could totally figure it out.
if any of you try it, i’d love to see the results! homemade gifts are the best, funniest, (and usually cheapest)
happy holidays!
