i picked up my summer reading from the store and i am more than excited! what are you reading this summer? my list goes as so :
bridget jones’s diary by helen fielding – i am such a fan of the film, but i really wanted to dive deep into the mind of bridget jones and see what all the hype from the book is about.
bonjour tristesse by francoise sagan – considered a french classic and written by a 17-year-old sagan, the story is of young celeste, spending a summer in provence and experiencing love and jealousy with all of the dangerous consequences that come along.
the virgin suicides by jeffrey eugenides – i attempted to read middlesex a few years back and i don’t believe i was prepared enough for it, but with high recommendation i feel like taking a chance with this one. (perhaps a bit depressing for the summer, but could you imagine reading this in winter?!? yikes!!!)
the great gatsby by f. scott fitzgerald – i’ve never read it. shocking, right? most of my friends hated it, but don’t you hate all required reading in high school? i’ve found that my favourite shakespeares were the ones i read out of pleasure, hopefully i’ll have the same reaction to this.
a jane austen education by william deresiewicz – perhaps the hype book of the summer. what woman doesn’t want to know how a straight man learned to love and live through the works of miss austen? sounds fantastic!
some books that i find highly appropriate for summer and lovely while read upon the beach are :
one day by david nicholls – for a quick read and a cute summer romance, this one is sure to have you blushing from ear to ear. plus you might as well get the reading in before the film comes out at the end of summer.
the time traveler’s wife by audrey niffenegger – if you haven’t read it, then stop all things now and get this book (don’t compare it too the rubbish film either!) this book is romantic and dark and sexual and magical and all things in-between. highly highly highly recommend!
the tea rose by jennifer donnelly – such a wonderful and lovely book set in old-times london with side stories of love, jack the ripper, and the tea trading business. one of my favourite books to date that usually goes unnoticed.
to kill a mockingbird by harper lee – such a classic. it reads perfectly with the golden sun setting and dialogue of a child’s imagination. by far my favourite book i was required to read in school.
the poems of pablo neruda by pablo neruda – i’m a bit of a poetry nut. neruda’s odes and poems are paired so nicely with summer. they remind you to appreciate all things about the season.
do you have any recommendations for me?

My summer reading book I just started is the Hunger Games. It’s coming out in a movie soon so I thought I’d take a stab at it. A couple of my fellow classmates told me if was a good read! Let me know how those books turn out!
I hope you don’t mind. I shamelessly stole this blog post idea from you and did my version of it on my blog.
i don’t mind in the least!!!! Excited to hear your choices!
