i think it’s official to say that my top most looking forward too films of 2012 are moonrise kingdom, the hunger games, and titanic rereleased.

anderson can’t get more anderson than the muted 60′s colour palette, retro french tunes, and bill murray. of course. can not wait!

it’s been a bit quiet here on my end hasn’t it? too say i haven’t been completely engrossed in the hunger games trilogy would be a lie (addicted over here.) there’s also been a lot of writing and bucket list viewings. though limiting my time on the internet has taken a bit of a hit on the ole’ blog here, it’s really good for me. (how did i spend so much time on it before?!?! it was pretty much draining me without even realizing it!)

this very lovely clemence posey photo shoot for glamour uk has been circling the circuit and i can certainly see why. i adore the play, the colours, the girly-ness. *sigh* magic magic.

ummmm, okay. i need to acquire every single outfit here. more photos over at the terrier and lobster.

be warned, i’m about to go very film geek on you. 8 1/2 is considered by many to be federico fellini’s best film. this is the second film of fellini’s that i’ve watched, the first being la strada which i somewhat struggle to find positive feedback for. 8 1/2, however, revolves around an italian film director in pre-production of his latest movie in which even he isn’t sure of what it’s about. it’s somewhat fantasy, flashing back and forth between his childhood memories and current dreams and how disillusioned he is when it comes to the subject of love, seeing how (at least in his mind) every woman throws herself at him.

overall, i found the film to be so-so. a bit confusing, weird, and slow pacing at times… however this film has earned a very special place in my heart (and probably soon on my dvd shelf.) why????

one word. lighting.

in film school we took classes on lighting and there are so many rules about it that you’d have a hard time remembering all of them. but somehow fellini seems to get it just right in this film. there’s contrast where there needs to be contrast, softness where there needs to be softness, highlighting of the eyes when he’s thinking, and that perfect triangle of light under the eye that only film students really understand, but is the highest achievement of shaping a person’s face and giving them depth (rarely seen in comedy)

in these next few shots, please pay attention to simply just the lighting.

such a small cream of the crop here. i highly suggest to rent this film, put on a great album, and just study the lighting. it’s inspiring with every frame.

okay. kirsten dunst is adorable. i was so giddy when we got this issue of lucky mag in the mail and i saw all of the glossy pages of kirsten in bright colours with her sunny blonde hair. she is truly becoming a style icon to watch! ♥ her!!!

i dream of pastel coloured beach days with pinstriped pants, dark burgundy lipstick, and overcast skies. doesn’t this “last days of summer” photoshoot for marie claire australia remind you of those days when you visit the sea in the fall or midst of winter and no one is there expect for the single wanderer and the sea is calm and the seagulls are singing gleefully? it has a gatsby sense to it also, which is always a winner in my book.

i think there is much to learn if you carefully study each outfit in these photos. more photos over at the terrier and lobster.

can i scent a halloween costume idea for next year? anything tenenbaum i always find very mysterious with the creams and browns, 70′s-esque vibe. i adore this high-fashion richie tenenbaum take.

this photoshoot alone makes me want to subscribe to elle italia. how about that second cream coloured suit with the loose textured tie? or this last piece with the knitted sweater, fur stole, and floppy hat? brilliant! more photos at the terrier and lobster.

i am not going to lie, i definitely bought this months teen vogue for the elle fanning article alone (and it was so worth it!) i admire how mature she is for her age, but how she also embraces her innocence. a great quote from the article reads, “all the girls in my class wears lots of makeup and try to look super old, but i would much rather look like a two-year-old than a 21-year old.” i try to remember this in the morning. while this past year i’ve really been trying to mature my style, i still tell myself that i’m young enough to pull off some more fun pieces and i should embrace that (like tie-up ballet shoes or braided hair!)

can we also talk about elle’s diy costume as the morton salt girl? brilliant!

what my happiness looks like…

this is my future chateau. where all the windows face east, the forest is my neighbor, and there’s not a single street lamp in sight so the night sky is my roof.

i dream of hosting great soirees in this chateau. i dream of raising a family in this chateau. i dream of catching fireflies in it’s garden, reading keats by its fireplaces, and filling it’s aroma with fine wines and fresh flowers.

this is what my happiness looks like.

does anyone know anything about this house? where it is, more pictures, etc.?
