i am moved!  i am in the new brooklyn chateau!

i have my own room!!!!

this is why i have not blogged lately.  on saturday alicia and i painted our rooms so it’s now that tiffany blue that i so dearly love!!!! (this is more teal-green-ish though)

on wednesday i go home too! then we’re hittin’ up savvy!  i am so excited to go back home for a week and be with my family and friends and amadeus and have my computer and blog (and eat back in the day cupcakes)!!!!  goodness i can’t contain the excitement!  i already have new layout ideas for the blog and everything!  i can’t wait to have all of my furniture in my room.

anywho, alicia and i may or may not have gone speed dating last night!  speed dating!!!! can you believe it!!??!?!?!?!  it was really weirdddd and actually pretty tiring.  there were 30 guys and 30 girls and each date lasted for the time period of an 80′s song.  alicia and i were definitely the youngest two there, haha.  i would say the average age range was early 30′s, but there were about three guys that were around our age.  was it a success?  not really… out of 30 guys i only wrote 4 down, 2 of which i wasn’t interested in but were really interesting and i thought i could maybe benefit from their friendship.  out of the other two guys i liked, one was way older than me, but he was really interesting to talk too, and the other was about my age so i was maybe just excited to be talking to someone under the age of 30.

would i do it again?  i don’t think so.  maybe under different circumstances.  maybe if it wasn’t themed  (i <3 nerds, yes that was the theme.  we thought it would be funny) and maybe if i was older.

alicia and i did meet one guy who was really nice and introduced us to his friends afterward though, which was maybe all the while worth it.  just being at a bar in brooklyn and talking to people.  it was nice.

well, it’s a beautiful, brisk day in park slope.  i do work later but maybe a trip to the park to enjoy this wonderful weather is needed.

i am so happy to be out of the « moving to new york » rut!  i am so happy to be in my own place.  and i am so happy to wake up to my blue walls this morning.  thanks for being so supportive and hanging in there with me these past few months.

in two weeks i’ll be in tennessee and savannah and i am so excited!  i already have a list of things i want to do.  it’s only for a week, but it’ll be the best week ever!!!  and i’ll have my computer back and i can blog again!!!!!!!!!!!

the new ra ra riot album the orchard.  it’s mind-blowing.  really.  i’ve listened to it 4 times within the past 16 hours.  it’s only $3.99 on amazon mp3 today so take the risk and buy it.  best $4 i spent all summer….

beekeeping.  i bought some honey from a local farmers market today and i am so completely impressed.  i’m signing up for beekeeping classes this year for sure!!!

it feels like fall.

fall!!!!

i do adore it!

only 1 more week until we move into our new chateau!!!  this one for good.  and only 17 days until i have my computer!  im already emailing myself websites and bloggers and designs!  i can’t wait until i get my computer back!  this blog is going to be rockin!  new designs! new music! i must have over 40 emails to myself for blogs for you.  i’m telling you, just hang in there a little tighter and i’ll finally stop talking about myself and move onto prettier things.

alicia and i are in the process of coming up with a name for the new place.  we have a few in the works but alicia isn’t fond of them yet.  any ideas?

i also have some things on my schedule for the next month that i’m excited to share with you!!!!

in other news, i saw a film the other day that was extremely beautiful and exquisite and made me miss tennessee.

it’s called get low and its about a hermit who decides he wants to throw his own funeral and attend it.  it was really lovely, in my top ten of the year for sure.

i highly recommend it.

being sick and working and missing tears for fears concerts and reading and writing blogs about imperfection do not help all at once.

sorry for the blah blah posts this week, but i guess we all need those weeks every now and then.

i have plenty of good news though and the good news is this.

1.)  i actually WANT to eat something.  i don’t get sick at the thought of food.  so i think lunch today is going to be the best ever. i don’t care what it is.

2.)  in 2 weeks i’ll be in my new apartment!  with my room!!!!  in 3 i’ll have my computer and my bed and my books and vinyl and dvds.  and in 5 i’ll have mr. amadeus!!!!!  oh joy!

3.) it’s the weekend!

4.) okay, so i missed tears for fears and $100+ is down the drain.  the next time they come around i’ll have a cute boy by my side and i’ll feel brilliant and we’ll dance the night away and it will be magical.

5.) did i mention that i’ll have amadeus soon?

6.) i got paid yesterday and though i shouldn’t buy anything, i think maybe a dress purchase on lulu’s and an order for tom’s shoes might be needed ♥♥♥

7.) i get my haircut next week!!!!!!!!!!

in april it was announced that one of my favourite bands, tears for fears, were going on tour.  tears for !@#$ing fears.  they are amazing.  an evening of singing « head over heels » and « everybody wants to rule the world » sounds like an amazing evening to me.

so the day they went on sale, i bought tickets.  i knew i’d be in nyc by then but just in case i checked the box that said « purchase ticket protection in order to recieve a refund in case you are not able to make the event. »  i paid $30 extra dollars because you really never know.  i also bought 2 tickets because i thought that would be plenty of time to meet someone cool and ask if they wanted to come with.

well two weeks ago i realized i had to work and i also needed the money.  so i struggled with myself and called the insurance company to have the tickets refunded.

in order to have a refund on tickets there must be either a.) your death b.) death of your spouse c.) cancelation of fight on the day of the event and other bull!@#$ reasons.

why do they not tell you this when you buy or right before you buy the protection plan?  no where does it say « pay $30 in case you die so you can have your tickets refunded. »

i called ticketmaster and explained the situation, they put in a refund request that was, of course, denied.

that’s fine, i thought.  i’ll just go by myself.  i’ll still have a good time.  well within the last 48 hours i’ve somehow gotten a virus because i’ve been insanely sick (they even sent me home from work.)  i have called every person i know and i am not able to sell them on craigslist because im not able to meet someone and hand them over the tickets.

so here i am.  incredibly sick.  and out of $105, while one of my favourite bands is playing 10 miles away and i’m not there.

there’s two purposes to this blog.  1.) don’t by the ticket protection plan.  2.) i really think ticketmaster should have a better return policy.

it seems like the blog craze today are posts suggesting how imperfect we are.  inspired by rock n roll bride, who was inspired by princess lasertron, and so on and so on.  these posts state how painstaking it can be to be a blogger (and a human) and to always compare your life too someone elses.  to feel like a failure.  it’s comforting to know that even the bloggers who inspire us feel the same way.

as suggested, they say it’s therapeutic to do this exercise.  so here it is.  how imperfect i am.

1.  i spend hours, and i mean hours, on blogs everyday.  every blog i read is about a wedding or a family or an insanely crafty girl who has her own business.  and every single blog gives me such inspiration and such a sense of failure.

2.  i don’t have a husband or a family or a cute dog.  i’m not crafty in the least.  i wouldn’t even know where to begin to make a headband.  i feel like an unaccomplished blogger (and person) every day.

3.  i haven’t had a proper home in 2 1/2 months.  i’ve been counting on friends to let me stay with them and use their showers and eat their food, and i’ve cried every single day since.

4.  the past four years i’ve been living solely off of my student loans.  every meal, every tank of gas, every magazine.  now i’m working 6 days a week and i still can’t afford a meal or a tank of gas or a magazine and my family tries to support me and i feel like a terrible daughter or friend.

5.  i feel overweight.  i feel like my clothes could be cuter.  everyday for the past two months i’ve pulled my hair back because i don’t want to deal with it.

6.  when i was 18 i thought i loved a boy.  neither of us barely knew each other, and i still think about him every day.  and i feel crazy for thinking about him.  he e-mailed me for the first time last week (in a very long time) and while i tried for my reply to be nonchalant, i desperately wanted to say that i missed him, and wanted to get to know him, and wish we could just take the risk and try to be whatever it is (whether our relationship turns good or bad) because the suspense of not knowing kills me.

7.  everything i eat is junk.  pizza or burgers or tacos or whatever.  its all junk, and i feel horrible afterwards.

8.  i miss college.  i want to go back.  i loved school.  i loved the people.  i loved spending my loan money and not caring.

9.  sometimes i still sleep with a stuffed animal from childhood for comfort.

10.  today is my day off.  the only day off i have this week.  and i’m going to spend the whole day in my pajamas and do nothing and i’m going to hate myself for it.

11.  every « relationship » i’ve ever had (about 5) i’ve been the one to call it off.  either because i’ve been too bored, too scared that i could be missing out on something better, or too still in love with a boy who doesn’t even know it.

12.  the main reason why i went to film school to go into this business was fall in love and be friends with celebrities.  how shallow is that.

13.  i’ve never smoked a cigarette or pot in my entire life.  never.  and sometimes i feel like i’m missing out.

14.  i got a puppy once in college and gave him away within 2 weeks because i had nervous breakdowns and couldn’t handle it.

15.  i’m scared to be a mom.  like the dog, i’m scared to feel tied down.  i want to leave home when i want, and i want to go home when i want.  i don’t want anything holding me back.

16.  i love living by myself.  i hate living with people.  hate it.  and i’m currently doing it and will be doing it for a while.  it kills me.  i want my personal space.  i want to be able to cry right now and not worry about my roommate in the next room hearing me.

17.  sometimes i wear the same pajamas for a week.

18.  i’m a photo whore.  i love having my picture taken.  i feel worthy when people actually want to take my picture.  this makes me feel narcissistic.

19.  i’ve never read pride and prejudice entirely.  i have 4 versions of the book, i’ve seen the film 1 million times and i’m in love with mr. darcy.  and i always get bored reading it.  i call myself an austen fan and i’ve never read a single book of hers.  i’m a fake.

20.  i go to bed between the hours of 9 and 11:30 every night.  i hate drinking.  i hate going out.  i want to be an old maid and just sleep.  i dread friendships with people if they require me to be up past this time.

i’m a real person.  no one is perfect.

i hope you’re having a lovely week.  today is my day off and it looks a bit overcast (boo) i bought the newest rob sheffield novel so i suppose my day will be spent blogging and reading that.  (i sacrificed three meals for that book, so it better be good!)

i wish i had a cool job with blogging or crafts or vintage clothes and whatnot.  life would be much more fun.  ahem.

in the past month though, i’ve seen two really fantastic films.  i felt they were everything a film should be and once again i became excited that one day i’ll be able to work on these.

so, here are two film reviews that are quick and to the point without spoiling anything in case you haven’t seen them yet.

directed and written by : christopher nolan (batman, the prestige)

starring : leonardo dicaprio, joseph gordan-levitt, ellen page, marion cotillard

inception is, hands down, the best film i’ve seen in years.  it is certainally my top film of the year and i am highly set in my ways that nothing is going to change that with 4 1/2 months to go.  the plot is about a man named cobb (dicaprio) who can enter people’s dreams and plant or steal their ideas.  with one final mission, cobb and his team find themselves within a dream of a dream of a dream and so on to do one last job.

everything was perfect about this movie, from start to the highly controversial (and brilliant) finish.  you were on the edge of your seat the entire time, the pacing was great, and the entire movie is about one intricate, complicated plot.  the first hour is simply explaining the rules of entering ones dream, and you don’t get bored for a single second.  the writing is fasinating and fresh and mind puzzling.  though dicaprio’s character is the lead, his team is just as, if not more, fantastic.  i gave ellen page a lot of crap for juno because i have a lot of issues with that film, but she actually did quite nice here.  the audience can relate to page’s architect more than any other character because at first you are just as clueless as she is, and when she learns the rules of the game, you learn.

inception is like a grown up version of mouse trap.  the entire time you’re expecting that it’s all too hard for you to understand, but you find that it’s not.  that you’re the ball rolling down the path and you understand your surroundings.  gordan-levitt was simply adorable.  i think it was more him that his character.  the visual effects were always fun to look at and nolan’s direction is always original (but honestly, the man is brilliant, and i think we all knew this prior to the film)  he really makes the actors think outside the box in a completely unethical way, and makes it relatable. (and i’m also mad at the bastard for being so damn good.  why can’t i be that creative!!!)

all though inception and all of its powers are unreal, you believe that this can actually happen.  you leave the theater wondering if people can actually enter other peoples dreams because none of it is represented in an unrealistic way.  that is what movies are all about.  if you honestly believe in aliens after an alien film, then it’s done its job.  its convinced you.  this film actually enters your mind and plants the idea that all of this could be real.  THAT is filmmaking.

films are all about escaping and living another life and this is one that none of us have lived before and we want to do it over and over again.  THIS is why we make movies.  THIS is why people go to them as their number one enjoyment hobby.  THIS is a movie for everyone.  it is brilliant.

i first saw the trailer to this film probably back in march.  i remember my mouth dropping afterwards and instantly replaying it three times.  and that’s it, i said.  i wasn’t gonig to watch another single thing about this film because i didn’t want my expectations to become too high and i didn’t want 4 different trailers to ruin anything for me when i was certain i would see it.  and i didn’t.  i didn’t watch a single thing about scott pilgrim from the day the trailer came out to last night.  and how incredibly glad i am.

this film is centered about two things i am not into at all.  video games and comics.  i’ve never read a single comic in my life and the only video game i’ve played is the occasional rock band parties in college.  even with a lack of passion for these two things, this movie blew me away.

the story is about a guy named scott (cera) who lives in the wonderful world of canada where everyone is in their own band and its normal for money to magically appear from someone when you hit them (much like super mario style) scott gets a glimps of ramona flowers (winstead) and she becomes the girl of his dreams.  in order for scott and ramona to be together however, scott must defeat ramona’s seven evil ex-boyfriends.  (duel style- like a challenge in mortal combat.)

i have a lot of beef about cera (again with the whole juno thing) and i thought if anything ruins this film it would be him.  but once again, i didn’t really mind him all too much as pilgrim.  he was awkwardly akward but still cute and charming (just like every other single character he’s ever played.)  the best thing about the entire film was the editing.  it’s face paced, heart racing, adrenaline of death pulse never stopped and always had a killer soundtrack to accompany it.  the editing for this film deserves an oscar nom, as well as the writing.

as stated eariler, i’ve never read a comic, but i would love to see what this is all about.  kieran culkin’s gay roommate’s of scott’s was the best.  everyone was witty.  everyone was dry.  everyone was everything they should have been.

like inception, this is a completely different film than anything we’ve seen before.  you actually see the words « wham » when someone gets punched as their point meter ascends.  sure, it’s corny.  if you watched this at home, by yourself, and had no idea what it was about, it would do nothing for you.  you need to be in a packed theater, surrounded by nerds who play zelda, and by god, you need to cheer along with them.  the tagline « an epic of epicness » stands on its own, and this is just as good, if not better, than any coaster at a theme park.

first off, because she’s fabulous.  she rides around in a hot pink mini-cooper streched limo.  she gives out free cupcakes.  and her clothes are like an everyday party princess that any girl, any age can wear.  betsey rubbed shoulders with andy warhol, she’s beaten cancer, and she’s 68 years old but has the mentality of someone in their 20′s.

you are a fabulous, amazing, inspiring woman and that’s why you’re my crush of the day.
