doesn’t this brilliant video of paris from land of nod inc make you want to pack your bags at this very minute?  i really like it’s style and the song is so catchy!  they also have a similar video called coney island love letter which is all very dreamy and romantic.  check it!

i’ve showcased kees van dijkhuizen’s [the film's of] series on the blog several times before with baz luhrmann, sofia coppola, and michel gondry. with this week’s addition of wes anderson, all he needs to do is woody allen and john hughes and my soul may be at rest.

there’s something about anderson’s work and i’m not sure how to pinpoint it.  everything seems more quiet, more simple, more yellow, haha.  it’s just a different way to look at situations. it took me several years to really become an anderson fanatic but i’m at the fanpoint where i really appreciate his viewpoints with the long dolly shots, or the crafty portrayal of a scene with strong, main quirky characters.

wes anderson once passed me on the street in new york and without thought or feeling i just started following him for several blocks.  there we were, on the street corner.  i smiled at him quietly because i felt like i knew his of secret of being someone important and also in a way brilliant.  okay, so it was a little creepy of me, but i didn’t approach him.  just quietly walked with him for several blocks.  *sigh*

i’m greatly anticipating this month’s release of moonrise kingdom. aren’t you?!?!?!  oh man.  such a genius!!

a study in pastel

slightly obsessed with this “a study in pastel” shoot for marie claire australia.  the styling and the wardrobe is completely phenomenal.  i’m not crazy about the watermarks but couldn’t find versions without (has anyone come across these?)

all of these pieces remind me of a modernized hepburn.  classic, tailored fits but with a coppola marie antoinette-esque punk vibe from the dip-dyed hair.  really really love how classy and feminine these look are.  any favourites?  i’m particularly obsessed with… all of them.

hello, gorgeous!  i’ve been pleasantly surprised to come across such strong female roles on my bucket list as of lately, with last week’s mame dennis from auntie mame and this weeks fanny brice from funny girl.  streisand gives a top notch performance and really might be at her best in this film (though i have such a strong love for yentl, no judging… haha)

her body language, expressions, range of voice, hair styles, and wardrobe are all fabulous!  plus omar sharif (aka- doctor zhivago) is so irresistible and charming.

really now, how can i attempt these hair styles?  big loose curls into a bouffant and chunky side swept or braided bangs.  and let’s just talk about this fitted black and white number, shall we?

everything about that outfit is a yes.  the hair, the big pearl earrings, the black waist belt, the long collar, the ruffled hem.

and did i mention the furs?!?!

i can’t deny how cute babs is.  doesn’t every girl want a feathered pink robe or complimenting pixie cut or attractive man to smooch?  *sigh* she really does have it all…

it may not be my birthday month, but it’s my birthday within a month.  that counts, right?  you see, you have to do these blogs early so all of the potential friends and family viewing can start getting ideas together.  (i know, i’m terrible!!!  but blogging about what i really really want seems way less cocky than telling someone these specific items in person.)  *sigh* i realize that some of these items are highly ambitious (ahemmm… #3) but a girl can dream can’t she???

.1 a trumpet .2 geronimo balloon .3 dom perignon .4 paris diptyque candle (in baise or feus de bois) .5 extra long fireplace matches ( a la auntie mame) .6 mark rothko coffee table book .7 audrey style .8 bocce ball .9 croquet set .10 margaret elizabeth tassle earrings (in burnt orange or lapis a la holly golightly) .11 monogram necklace .12 a streetcar named desire .13 grey gardens criterion collection .14 boot drinking mug .15 butter nail polish (in snog or dahling)

any takers???

men’s style

let’s talk about men’s style for a moment, shall we?  after being linked to a men’s style blog, buttoned and sewn, i was delighted to see that such a site exists.  i think for a man to be into style, it is an extremely attractive and respectful hobby/trait to possess.

prime example.  cary grant.  cary grant is a man.  something about his style becomes him and the way he carries himself.  he’s classy.  tailored fits (no t-shirts), complimentary solid colours (no prints), and he takes even his shoes and ties into great consideration.

a man with classic, great style showcases that he cares about himself, his personality, and what impressions he wants to get across.  You don’t see men like Cary Grant or Ryan Gosling or Jude Law in denim or flip flops or tee’s from urban… not that anything is wrong with that, but do those items really express timelessness?

buttoned and sewn led me to the site industry of one which displays several photographs documenting individuals and their style and how it compliments their lifestyle, which is where these photos are from.  fabulous examples.

nothing get’s me going more than a guy in slacks, a buttoned down top, vest, and cute shoes and a hat that compliments.  with a beard.  okay.  perhaps i’m a bit specific here.

much to learn, respect, and love from here.
